Japan’s Pocket-Size Supercars – The Turbo Keis

Do you want a super light, sporty car with excellent handling, good power, and good looks?
Do you want that car to be a bit unique and different from what everybody else has, yet still practical and reliable? And do you want all this at a modest price?
Well dream on, because you’re not going to get it; at least, not if you shop for a new car.

Kei Class (Light Class) vehicles are unique to Japan and although there are overseas versions of some of them, like the ubiquitous Suzuki Alto, the high output 660cc turbo and supercharged Kei Sports versions were for Japan only.

These cars are light, like the early model Elise, at around 650kgs to 700kgs. They have turbo-charged or supercharged engines. They have excellent handling and you can even find some without power steering (the true sports car driver’s preferred set up, of course).

Mitsubishi Minica Dangan (Bullet) ZZ. The engine is highly tuned: turbo-charged and inter-cooled with multi-point fuel injection, dual overhead cam, and five valves per cylinder.
